I always thought I was missing something living in a small town. After the unbeliveable events of a funeral arranged here, I am grateful for LOTS of competion in which to prevent the nightmare that happened with this facility. A young man dies. He is unmarried with minor children, which according to Indiana means any living parents have the first slot in making arrangements. Feel free to ask at other funeral homes. But not here. Both parents who have been divorced for years were threatened by the young man's grandfather that he would have the body cremated and no one would see him before. Then again, the grandfather called the parents to give them designated 15 minute slots for viewing. After the viewing the parents were seated with a director at a Russiaville location. He gave the impression that all costs were covered. There was no A) Someone has come forward and wants to cover this, B)Our local Trustees has this program...C) make a selection and I will tell you the cost. The mother asks about making donations back to the fund that was helping-no not needed. The father asked specifically if grandpa was covering-no. The father was not told of a fee and limit on words for the obituary that would appear in the paper. An Aunt was allowed to pay for the obituary without the fathers knowledge and spitefully negleted to mention his 2 sisters and 2 nephews. The father learned of the memorial service via a facebook post that stated grandpa and girlfiend would have a "proper memorial" this Saturday at 10. He learned the ashes were back when his ex-wife told him she had hers. When confronted with the appropriate process to issue a formal complaint, Stout himself told the father that one daughter ( who is not from a small town and can sense b......t, was not allowed to come to the memorial and would be escorted away. Is that how small towns really do things? Personal friendships override professionalism and public attainable rules? Try to intimadate those that know when something is not right. Unbelievable-shame on you Hasler-Stout for shredding the image of a small town business. Shame on you for letting your friendship with the grandpa taint your professionalism. Although in your defense you shouldn't have been put in that situation. Since your good ole buddy did-you should have been professional and followed the rules and regulations of your business. I am so glad to live a a larger city.
